Pride makes us proud!
The FC Gold Pride, of the WPS, had their home opener in Castro Valley on Saturday the 17th and rewarded the fans with a 3-1 win over Sky Blue FC. Two goals by Christine Sinclair and a dazzler from the 18 yard line by Marta were 3 of the 4 highlights of the evening. The 4th highlight was the way Rachel Buehler shut down Natash Kai of Sky Blue. Although Kai received the brunt of the attacks and was replaced at the beginning of the second half, Buehler spread her love generously to any opponent that came near her.
Pauliina Miettinen, the Sky Blue coach, brought in Jessica Landstrom, a 5’11″ formidable athlete and Rosana to battle Buehler and the stingy Pride midfielders, which had an immediate effect resulting in an equalizing goal in the 49th minute. The Pride responded well as they adjusted to the new Sky Blue players and battled back to win the game off of a goal by Sinclair and a final goal by Marta to put the game away for good.
As a fan, the FC Gold Pride organization did a great job creating a fun atmosphere for the fans. My children enjoyed it and the stands were full. Now all we need are some talented fans with song writing abilities so we have something to sing/chant during the games.
