How to grow a super althlete

This is a very interesting article as it gives insight as to what it takes for a child to develop into a super athlete. I think the following sums it up pretty well:

  1. Technique
  2. Specialization
  3. Practice
  4. Love of practice

I think those children who love to practice, or get the attention of their parents by kicking the ball around have the best chance of going far playing soccer. This requires the parents know the proper technique, so they can help reinforce technique when playing with their kids. More than anything though, it requires patience as the child learns the technique so the playtime remains fun.

This story could begin in many places — it’s about beginnings, after all — but I’d like to start with the recent evening when my 4-year-old daughter, Zoe, appeared before me wielding a yellow baseball bat and an important announcement: batting tees were for babies.
