U10 Wildcats defeat the Tigercats

0

The U10 Wildcats defeated the Tigercats 7-5 in a game that would make all feral cats proud. The Tigercats struck first and took the lead 2-0. The Tigercats presented a problem the Wildcats hadn’t faced in quite awhile, a team that had very good ball control and a lot of speed at the forward position. It was a great lesson for our defense, because they have come to rely too heavily on the fact that they are fast and can recover from poor positioning or over-aggressive play. Emma showed her versatility by taking over a defensive position and playing it superbly to help shut down the Tigercats in the second half. Emma’s effort combined with Katherine’s superb goalie skills proved the buttress the Wildcats needed to bring home the win. Great job girls!

Things to work on this week:

  1. Defensive body positioning
  2. Poke tackle/block tackle – when and how to use them
  3. Containment – how to approach attacker to contain their direction of movement
  4. Goal side is not only horizontal, but vertical (goal side to the center of the field to cover the attacker)

Everyone played well and didn’t quit when we went down so early in the game. I love the “never say die” attitude our girls demonstrate.
